Responsibility

I am always responsible for my actions-True

When I was a child, my parents were responsible for taking care of me and for raising me to be a good person.  As I got older, they began to start letting me become more independent and allowed me to start making choices of my own.  With this new independence, it also required me to stop blaming my parents or others for my problems, mistakes, or faults. I believe that as we grow up, we begin to take on new responsibilities in our lives.  In a couple weeks I'm going to be 18 and that's when I become legally responsible for my actions.  It will be my choice to decide what actions I will take in the future.  If I go out and buy drugs and get caught (I won't do that), I am 100% responsible.  There comes a time in everybody's life when you have to decide things on your own (college, career, marriage, etc.) and accept yourself and your decisions.

Philosophy Project

Last week I was assigned my senior project.  It's a 20+ page paper on my philosophy and I have to connect myself to the books I've read and other philosophers.  I haven't thought about what I might write about, but I'm thinking that my focus will be concentrated about the end of high school and the next chapter of my life.  I'll keep you guys updated on my progress and my ideas.

Today I was asked to take a quiz on philosophy in English class.  I didn't know what to expect and I was curious to see what I was going to be asked.  The quiz was to determine what philosophy I believe in and when I got the results back, it revealed that I have strong Existential beliefs.  At first I was surprised by the results, but then it all made sense.  The website listed Existential quotes and one that stuck with me was said by Jean-Paul Sartre (look at the picture).  I thought about the importance of what Sartre was trying to say and I think he was trying to express the idea that we create ourselves and the meaning of our lives.  Personally, I believe that this idea is what life is all about.  I don't have any devotion or beliefs in religion, but I do believe in creating ones self and creating a meaning and importance with life.
